Corey McDougall Memorial Golf Tournament (1:00AM - 1:00AM)
Wearing the argyle at Corey McDougall Memorial Golf Tournament

EAST WENATCHEE — When the Corey McDougall Memorial Golf Tournament tees off for the eighth time on May 6, there will be something different out on the fairways and greens of Highlander Golf Course.

Argyle socks, golf caps and anything else that invokes the way things used to be on the links.

"We are going vintage this year," says Kelley Kennedy of Impact Events, which is organizing the annual fundraiser for the Mission Ridge Ski Team. "We were looking for something a little different."

Plans call for prizes to be handed out to the best-dressed team and the funniest-dressed team.

Besides raising money to fund scholarships for Mission Ridge Ski Team athletes, the golf tournament honors McDougall, a Wenatchee native and ski team alum who passed away in 2003.

"Corey had a competitive drive and a wonderful spirit that went beyond his skiing abilities and that still radiates today in the hearts of many," says Ryan Shorter, Mission Ridge Ski Team program director. "We are proud of having his name associated with this annual event.

"The golf tournament is a big part of keeping the ski team an integral part of the Wenatchee Valley's fabric," Shorter says. "Competing in any sport at the highest levels requires the support of more than just an athlete's family. Without this tournament and the community's support, some athletes would not be able to continue ski racing."

The golf tournament will tee off at 1 p.m., Sunday, May 6 with a shotgun start at Highlander Golf Course, 2920 Eighth St. S.E. in East Wenatchee. Player registration is at 11 a.m. Organizers also have added a putting challenge for golfers that will take place between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. It will cost $10 a putt, with the winner receiving half of the pot and the other half going to the Mission Ridge Ski Team.

A dinner and awards program will follow at 5:30 p.m. Dinner-only tickets are available for $25 per person.

The cost to golf is $125 per player or $450 per team. The price includes 18 holes of golf, a riding cart, the dinner and awards.

As of April 20, only seven team spots were still available.

Participants can register online at
www.mrst.us or http://mrst.schoolauction.net/golf2012/homepages/show through May 1; or by contacting Kelley Kennedy at kelleyk@impactevents.com or (509) 387-1411.
